What is it?
Otherfield Shoots is a free monthly documentary film club hosted at Chicken Town in Tottenham N15. In this series of screenings, Otherfield Shoots presents films for young people that are made by filmmakers who explore personal narratives or events in their own lives. We invite independent filmmakers to come and screen their films and engage with a young audience. Our aim is to nurture talent from communities that are under represented in the film industry with the hope of encouraging young people to make films and tell their own stories.
Who is it for?
The people attending could already be fledgeling filmmakers, but we are hoping to plant seeds in the minds of young people who might want to give documentary filmmaking a go. We are particularly keen to encourage attendance from diverse cultural backgrounds and from under privileged communities who may not have access to these films. This is with the aim of addressing the balance of representation within the filmmaking community and film audiences. Free screenings will be followed by accessible discussions where young people can meet the filmmakers themselves, explore their ideas and get advice from experienced filmmakers. Our long term goal is to develop the opportunities available to the young people by offering a series of practical, hands on filmmaking workshops and mentorships.
Otherfield shoots is a new initiative by Otherfield, a collective of filmmakers who organise an annual creative non fiction film festival celebrating and showcasing the best of independent filmmaking. Otherfield creates an inclusive exchange between aspiring and established filmmakers, whilst encouraging new voices into the filmmaking community.
