Between 1955 and 1995, over 70,000 West African children were fostered by white British families. The film sensitively accompanies nine of them to a workshop retreat where they take turns in exploring their past with the help of professional therapy. This reveals the heartfelt impact of their challenging upbringing - a moving and sometimes unsettling meditation on identity, belonging and the nature of family.
